Sponging takes a bit of practice to get the look you want so don’t hesitate to keep trying until you get exactly what you want.
I find it easy to have a big splotch when I first put the sponge on the cardstock. The trick is to start with very little pressure on the sponge and then move in circles.
I love scenery cards and I often use sponging for that purpose. In fact, I have a whole class on scenery cards where you can follow along as I sponge the backgrounds.
